| Depending on your specific tour itinerary socials may be held on back to back nights or spaced apart by a day to allow you time to date in between. Take advantage of all the time you have by dating the gorgeous women socials have introduced you to. Foreign women will have jobs and responsibilities that may prevent them from being totally available all of the time. Meet for breakfast the next day, have coffee or lunch at mid- day, meet someone for dinner or a late glass of wine. I have accused some guys of being worse than a bunch of bikers in the way they speed-date, meeting 5-6 women a day. Others will focus too much time too early on only one or two. For a first date with any girl feel free to utilize one of the hotel bars for something simple. Save your dinners and evening time for someone you have developed a definite chemistry with. Foreign women will often say the first date should be just a chance to talk, away from the social, and see if there should be a second date. They won't mind hanging out at a quiet cafe or maybe taking a walk around the central park. The emphasis at first should be all about getting to know one another. Don't feel pressured to wine and dine every time. One gentlemen in Cartagena used a specific restaurant for every first date - and there were many - and took his interpreter along each time. The interpreter eventually complained she would gain 30 pounds from eating so many meals! My first date with Victoria was at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg. During the social where we met I mentioned my fondness for Impressionist art. I had just purchased a book with Leonard Cohen lyrics against Matisse paintings. I told Viktoria and Olga (my staff interpreter and Viktoria's best friend) about a particular Matisse set called “Music and Dance.” Through Olga, Viktoria kept trying to tell me “It's here! It's here.” Like a knuckle-head I didn't quite understand what they were saying until the day we all met for a tour of the Hermitage and there in one room were the two pieces, “Music and Dance.” “Wow, amazing!” I said, and they giggled at me. I asked why and Olga rolled her eyes and chided with a smile.“You Americans are so consistent. Every time you come to the Hermitage the first thing out of your mouths is always 'Wow, amazing.' ” Go to a Museum, walk in the city park - every tour city has one - or share a drink in the hotel lobby. Double date with another tour couple to one of the city's art museums, cathedrals or palaces. Ask your tour staff for cost saving suggestions - believe me, they'll know where to go to have a nice meal on the cheap. In Latin America there are abandoned 18th century missions, exotic beaches, outdoor markets and thriving ethnic cafes. Use the time in between and after socials wisely and don't be afraid to ask your tour hosts for help in keeping your schedule full until you think you've met HER. |
